Being a beforeUdig Certified Locator does not give you any automatic rights to access the services or infrastructure of any individual underground asset owner.
As a beforeUdig Certified Locator you should at all times work within the access limits that may be set by an asset owner. These should be documented in the duty of care statements issued with their plans.
In the future it is hoped that the majority of asset owners will recognise the beforeUdig Locator certification and allow holders greater access to their infrastructure in order to deliver the best locate outcomes. Asset owners may require some additional training or demonstration of competency to make this possible.
The Australian DBYD Locator certification is recognised by a growing number of national and state asset owners including, Telstra, Optus, and Energy Queensland. It is hoped that over time in New Zealand the beforeUdig certification will also be similarly recognised.
